Technical Operations Analyst
Abett produces a data-management software product for benefits directors, HR staff and finance professionals. Our customers range from mid-sized enterprises to Fortune 50 firms.
We are looking for a Technical Operations Analyst to assist our operations team and perform the following functions:
Implement and Maintain File Specifications: we receive data file specifications from partners, customers, and vendors and we need to implement those using an internal Abett application, so that incoming data files may be parsed, and outgoing data files may be generated
Test and Verify Data Transmissions: we need someone who can work with the Engineering and Operations teams to ensure incoming and outgoing data files are complete, accurate, and testable
Develop Expertise in HR and Benefits Data: we need someone who is or can become an expert in what different fields and values mean when our customers receive data from HR or benefits systems
Serve as a Resource to Customers: we need someone who can take their knowledge about the data, the flows in and out, and the meaning of each field and value and become a trusted resource to help customers develop their own understanding of their data
Assist Operations Manager: we need this person to be available to assist the Operations Manager and other internal staff and complete weekly tasks to prepare for customer meetings
Abett is based in Seattle, Washington, but we are a fully distributed (remote) organization. Therefore, you can work from anywhere. This is a full-time position that reports to the Technical Operations Manager and compensation incudes equity options.
Context and vision
Employers are important consumers of healthcare, as they agree to terms in benefits plans that dictate what care is available, and how much it costs. However, employers have historically been passive consumers of healthcare. Abett helps employers become fierce consumers of HR benefits and healthcare, which we believe will lead to better care and lower costs.
We use technology to shift power from entrenched vendors to the employers and patients who pay the bills. We accomplish this mission by delivering a SaaS data-management product for employers. It provides four benefits: (1) a centralized “data store” for HR and healthcare data; (2) automated and secure data transfers between vendors; (3) “swappable” data connections to replace vendors as needed; and (4) compliance with complex laws and regulations.
Our problem, or why we are hiring
We have a growing number of customers, each with increasing demands. Our products are evolving rapidly, and greater automation is our future. However, as we grow and develop better product offerings, we still require setup, configuration, maintenance, and validation of our customer data flows in and out. Plus, we are increasing our domain knowledge of HR and benefits data every day. We need more talented people to capture and retain that expertise so that we can put it to use on behalf of our customers.
An ideal candidate and next steps
We expect an ideal candidate will:
Have at least 1 year of experience in data analysis, data manipulation, querying, transfer, and/or data validation
Have experience writing complex SQL queries, with joins, aggregations, filtering, and column manipulation
Be willing and able to learn quickly, and be able to find multiple paths to a solution
Have exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills, with a high degree of attention to detail
Desire, expect, and demand responsibility
Have an extremely well-developed ability to communicate in writing – given the distributed nature of Abett’s organization, our staff must be very capable at both processing and articulating complex ideas in writing
Understand the benefits and costs of working in a start-up venture
Our hiring criteria are simple: All we care about is if you can solve our problem. If you believe you’re the right person for that job, then we’d love to hear from you about how you’ll do it.
